About the NSF-GROW Program

Chris’s trip is funded by a generous grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and their Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP).  The program is called Graduate Research Opportunities Worldwide (GROW), and it is open to any graduate student studying under a GRFP fellowship.  The program provides students with an opportunity to travel from 3 to 12 months to one of the following partner countries: Australia, Brazil, Chile, Denmark, Finland, France, India, Ireland, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland.

I applied to work with Dr. Heikki M. Tuononen at the University of Jyväskylä (more about him here) on computational chemistry relating to some of the research that I’ve done already at the University of Minnesota.  In addition to delving into this new area of chemistry, I’ll be working to help his students perform some synthetic chemistry.
